Berlin Adult Education

Admission All courses are noncredit and are offered to residents and nonresidents of Berlin who are 16 years of age or older. High School students may attend with the permission of their principal. Registration All registrations must be done through the Adult Education Office (no exceptions). Registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. Mail-In Registration begins immediately and must be received in the Adult Education Office by Friday, January 21. Late Phone-In Registration will be taken only on Wednesday, January 26, between the hours of 5:30PM and 9:00PM. Early Registration Discount If your registration form is received by Berlin Adult Education on or before Thursday, January 20, you may reduce the course tuition fee by the amount of the Early Registration Discount. Registration forms received after that date will not be eligible for the discount. Walk-In Registration Walk-In Registration for ABE, GED, ESL, and Citizenship will be held at Berlin High School from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday, January 10 to January 13. Walk-in Registration for Enrichment classes will be held on January 24 from 6:00-8:00 pm. The Early Registration Discount will not be available at Walk-In Registration. Class Cancellations Adult Education evening classes are always canceled if day classes in the Berlin public schools are canceled. Cancellation notices due to inclement weather or for other reasons will be announced over the Berlin Public Schools Special Announcement Telephone line (number 828-8594) and over radio station WTIC-AM 1080 after 4:00 PM for Adult Education classes. Confirmations Unless you are notified by phone or mail to the contrary, assume you are enrolled and your class will meet as scheduled. No written confirmation will be mailed to you. In the event a class is filled or canceled, every attempt will be made to notify you. Berlin Adult Education reserves the right to cancel courses due to low enrollment. If this happens, please consider an alternative course. Class Locations All classes will meet at Berlin High School unless otherwise noted under the course description. Senior Citizens Only senior citizens (age 62 and older) of the town of Berlin will be able to take advantage of the 5% discount on tuition. All nonresident senior citizens are subject to the same registration fees as other nonresidents. Student Regulations Smoking or use of tobacco products or alcoholic beverages is not permitted in any school building or on school grounds at any time. Refunds Refunds will only be given if (1) Adult Education cancels a class, (2) a class is full, or (3) a withdrawal is requested one week prior to the first class. Regretably, no other refund requests can be granted. Handicapped Assistance We offer assistance to handicapped students. Please contact the Adult Education Office at 828-8135. Evaluation Forms Each student will be asked to complete an evaluation form which will be supplied by the instructor at the last class. If there is a problem that should be addressed prior to the end of the course, please contact the Director immediately. Your comments and input on class satisfaction are helpful to us in providing quality programs. Instructors Course instructors come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Many of our instructors are certified teachers or are members of the community with special areas of expertise which they are qualified to share.
